Obamacare to Increase Florida Insurance Rates Over 60%; Ros-Lehtinen Says We Deserve Better

Press Release

With a recent report indicating that Florida health insurance premiums will go up 61 percent due to Obamacare, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) says Floridians deserve better and not the regulation and bureaucracy heavy program. The report was recently released by Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce, Senate Finance, and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees.

The report, "The Price of Obamacare's Broken Promises" is based on over 30 studies and analyses, and outlines estimated premium increases for all 50 states that will result from the rigid mandates and price controls imposed by the president's health care law.

Young adults, already facing record high unemployment, will be hit the hardest. Recent college graduates with entry-level jobs who are struggling to pay off student loan debt could see their premiums increase between 145 and 189 percent. Some studies estimate young adults could experience premium increases as high as 203 percent.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Obamacare will cause a major economic crisis for small businesses and their employees by increasing health insurance premiums far beyond what they can afford to pay. Young people just starting out in an already terrible job market will be hurt the most. I have long supported eliminating this tax laden job killing health care program and replacing it with reforms that will bring down the cost of health care through competition and the free market."
