Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) released the following statement after House Democrats' meeting today with President Obama:
"I was pleased that President Obama was clear and candid about his commitment to finding the bipartisan compromise that is required to make progress on any important issue, while maintaining fundamental principles, including the need for a balanced approach to our budget and policies that will spur continued job growth, including rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. He recognizes that the best way to address all of our economic issues is to get people back to work.
"I'm confident that this week the President has also shown my colleagues on the other side of the aisle that we can find the common ground necessary to resolve our budget impasse, and put an end to Washington-imposed crises like sequestration that are impeding our economic recovery. However, we can only ultimately be successful if both parties will agree with the clear majority of the American people that the right way to address our fiscal challenges and invest in our future is with a combination of spending cuts and new revenue."
