House Republicans have introduced a responsible plan to put our nation on a path to fiscal solvency and end the days of governing from crisis to crisis. The Path to Prosperity brings our federal budget into balance over ten years, fully repeals Obamacare, and ensures that taxes paid by American families and small businesses are spent in an accountable and effective way. We know American families can't spend more than they have, and neither should Washington.

President Obama Cancels White House Tours to the Public
Instead of cutting waste from within the Administration's budget, President Obama has decided to cancel public tours of the White House. I think this decision is absurd and it disappoints me that this spring there will be hundreds of students and families from Texas' 24th district coming to D.C. to experience their nation's capital that will not have the opportunity to visit the White House. Until this matter is resolved, I am happy to announce that tours of the Capitol will continue to be provided. If you are planning a trip to Washington, my office would be happy to help arrange for a tour of the Capitol through my website here: https://marchant.house.gov/constituentservices/tourrequest.htm
Congressman Marchant Seeking Views Regarding Tax Reform Working Group
Taxpayers deserve a tax code that is simpler, flatter, and fairer. If we want to build a healthier economy, we need genuine tax reform and that requires a plan of action. I am honored to chair one of the working groups to help lead the tax reform effort. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and I encourage constituents, stakeholders, and policy experts to share their views. The depth and quality of input from the public will help ensure a tax code that protects hardworking Americans and delivers common sense results. Please follow the link to see how you can take part in the tax reform process.
Oversight Hearing on Tax-Related Provisions in Obamacare
Last week I participated in a Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Hearing on the tax-related provisions included in Obamacare. The President's health care law contains over a trillion dollars in new taxes on employers, medical device makers, families buying health insurance, and others. Throughout the 24th district, small business owners and CEOs are sitting down with their accountants and trying to figure out how they are going to do business next year. That is creating uncertainty and fear, as well as impeding job creation. Please click the image above to watch video of my full remarks.
Among those testifying before the committee was Walt Humann, a resident of the 24th district and President & CEO of OsteoMed, a medical device company located in Addison.
Cub Scouts Visit My District Office
A group of Cub Scouts from Irving visited my District office on Friday in order to fulfill a requirement for Wolf Rank. While visiting, they took part in a number of fun activities where the scouts got to learn about their government and the State of Texas. I presented each of the visiting scouts with an American flag lapel pin.
We are now accepting applications for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece will be recognized in the 24th District and at the annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. where it will be displayed in the Capitol for an entire year.

The process is simple and it will only take you a few minutes. Participants must submit the application and a digital image of the artwork through the website by 5 p.m. Friday, March 29.
In an effort to reward participation and encourage young artists, we will be publicizing digital images of the artwork on my Facebook page during the second week of April.
