Lummis: Ryan Budget is America's Roadmap to Prosperity

Tuesday House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) unveiled his Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution. Through a responsible, pro-growth approach to securing America's future, the Ryan Budget balances the nation's budget in ten years without raising taxes. By ending wasteful spending, reforming our tax code, and addressing the real drivers of our debt, the Ryan Budget reduces deficits by $4.6 trillion over the next ten years.

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis issued the following statement:

"Chairman Ryan again presents a realistic and reasonable solution to our country's debt problem. Unlike the President's past budgets, the Ryan Budget outlines logical steps to balance our budget without raising taxes and gets our country back on the road to create jobs and grow our economy.

"There isn't a doubt in my mind that some colleagues will cry foul. But, in an era of drama-filled politics, let's step back and consider the reality of our situation.

"We are a country $16 trillion in debt. America is heading toward a debt crisis unless we do something now to stop reckless borrow-and-spend policies.

"The Ryan Budget grows our economy, reduces our deficit, proposes an energy independent North America and expands job opportunities.

"This is the House Republican plan. This is the plan that puts America back on track and back to work. This is the plan to renew America. I hope my fellow colleagues recognize this."

The President's budget is slated to be released in April, two months behind schedule. The U.S. Senate is expected to release their first budget in over four years on March 13th.
