Gerlach Supports Balanced Budget and Honest Solutions for Strengthening Medicare for All Generations

Statement

Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6th District) voted in favor of legislation on Thursday that delivers honest solutions for balancing the budget, making our Tax Code less taxing on families and business owners of all sizes and ensuring retirement security for seniors and future generations.

The proposal, H. Con. Res. 25, authored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin passed by a vote of 221-207. The measure awaits action in the U.S. Senate.

Gerlach issued the following statement on his vote to pass a responsible budget:

"I voted for this legislation because it puts us on a path to a balanced budget. And a balanced, budget means more jobs for American workers and greater opportunity for our children and grandchildren. This plan balances the federal budget without asking families and employers to send more of their hard-earned paychecks to Washington. Instead, the budget I supported makes Washington stop spending money it does not have. And when we eliminate wasteful Washington spending, that means we'll have the resources to strengthen and preserve Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Under the federal health care law enacted by the Democrat-controlled Congress and President Obama, Medicare is being raided to the tune of more than $700 billion. Not one penny of that $700 billion goes toward providing greater retirement security for seniors or toward making sure Medicare will be there when our children and grandchildren need it. Finally, this budget plan recognizes the need for overhauling our Tax Code to make it fairer, simpler and more pro-growth. Instead of making taxpayers work harder to fill out their tax returns, it's time for a Tax Code that works for all of us."
