Congressman Ready to "make the most" of Session's Opportunities

(Washington, DC) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves had the following reaction to the President's State of the Union address:

"The President has been a strong and sure leader in the War on Terrorism. Sunday's vote in Iraq was historic and an unmistakable step toward democracy. I salute our soldiers, many of them from right here in Missouri, who have shown courage and compassion in delivering Iraq from tyranny to the doorstep of democracy. I support the plan to put Iraqis in charge of their own government.

I also support the President's call for fiscal restraint. I believe that with fiscal restraint we can and will lower the national debt. It is important that we meet the nation's priorities like providing for our troops and protecting the homeland, but we need to focus on ending government waste, fraud and abuse.

We have an opportunity to pass much needed legislation. From long-time priorities like an Energy bill to reforming our tax structure, the year ahead will be one of challenges and opportunities. I am ready to get to work and make the most of those opportunities.

I agree with the President that Social Security is broken and needs to be fixed. One thing that Seniors must know is that their current benefits will not be cut. As we move through the legislative process I look forward to seeing more details on the President's plan and hearing from my constituents."
