McCarthy Statement on House Passage of the SKILLS Act

Statement

Date: March 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding House passage of Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act:

"With 12 million Americans out of work and over 4.5 million unemployed for longer than 6 months, Washington Democrats must change their failed approach to job creation. For the past four years, Washington has measured the success of jobs programs with the amount of money the federal government has spent on them. From the President's failed trillion dollar stimulus to the billions of dollars spent every year on inefficent training programs, the idea to simply waste money has failed the American people. Today, the House took action to cut through the current maze of programs, strengthen the role of job creators, rein in federal bureaucracy, and improve administrative efficiency to ensure that money is spent on job training programs that are tailored to provide the skills needed to get Americans across the country back to work. I applaud Congresswoman Foxx on her leadership on this bill and strongly encourage the Democrats in the Senate to change their big government approach to job creation and send this bill to the President's desk."
