Klobuchar Highlights Minnesota Businesses at First Meeting as Member of President's Exports Council

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today highlighted Minnesota businesses at her first meeting as a member of President Obama's Export Council. At the meeting, Klobuchar discussed her recent "Exporting Minnesota" tour of Minnesota companies selling their products overseas to underscore the importance of export promotion for local businesses across America. The council, which is the primary national advisory committee on exports, assists the President with matters affecting exports, including policies and programs that promote export expansion and work to resolve export-related issues in the business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors.
"On my "Exporting Minnesota' tour, I saw firsthand how Minnesota businesses are selling their products to customers around the world and lifting up their local communities as a result,"said Klobuchar. "I look forward to continuing to work with the President's Export Council to ensure all our businesses and farmers can capitalize on these opportunities to boost exports and continue to compete in a global economy."
Last month, as part of her "Exporting Minnesota" tour, Klobuchar met with businesses and local leaders in cities and towns across the state including, Lake Regional Medical in Chaska, Miller Manufacturing in Glencoe, American Time and Signal Company in Dassel, Microbiologics in Saint Cloud, Nova Tech in Willmar, Case IH in Benson, Superior Industries in Morris, and WASP, Inc. in Glenwood to discuss her efforts to open up new export markets for Minnesota businesses.
As chair of the Commerce Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion, and Vice Chair of the Joint Economic Committee, Klobuchar has been a leader in efforts to boost America's ability to compete in the global economy, working to cut red tape for businesses and open up new markets to U.S. exports. In 2010 she passed legislation--the Export Promotion Act--to help small- and medium-sized businesses sell their products in international markets. She has also introduced legislation --the Innovate America Act-- to promote innovation.
