Portman Joins 88 Other Members of Congress to Call on Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to Retract Incendiary Comment on Zionism

Location: Washington, DC

Yesterday, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), along with 88 other members of Congress, signed a bipartisan, bicameral letter led by Congressmen Steve Israel (D--NY) and Doug Lamborn (R-CO) and Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL) to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan calling on him to retract his comment made before a U.N. conference in Vienna, which equated Zionism with Fascism and Anti-Semitism and called it a "crime against humanity."

Sen. Portman said, "I urge Prime Minister Erdogan to immediately apologize for his deplorable remarks and recognize the deleterious effect they may have on the region."
