Letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta - Importance of Local Military Bases

Representatives Blake Farenthold (R-TX-27) and Filemon Vela (D-TX-34) sent a letter today to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta urging him to consider the importance of three local military bases when implementing future Department of Defense cuts.

Representatives Farenthold and Vela represent the Costal Bend of South Texas which is home to three critical military facilities; the Corpus Christi Army Depot, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and Naval Air Station Kingsville.

"Together, these facilities form a unique military community that provides vital training and military readiness for our nation while saving taxpayers millions of dollars each year," Reps. Farenthold and Vela say in the letter.

"With the looming possibility of sequestration, we ask that you to consider both the military readiness and savings these facilities provide to our nation and the economic security it provides for South Texas and its surrounding communities. These outstanding facilities deserve our continued support."
