Rep. Ruiz Votes in Favor of Bipartisan "No Budget, No Pay" Act

Press Release

U.S. Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (D-Palm Desert) today voted in support of H.R. 325, the bipartisan "No Budget, No Pay Act." H.R. 325 also includes provisions to suspend the debt limit through May 18, 2013, allowing the United States to avoid a government default.

"The American people expect Democrats and Republicans to work together and pass a budget that puts our nation on a fiscally sustainable path and makes the investments we need to create jobs and strengthen our economy," said Rep. Ruiz. "Americans don't get paid if they don't do their jobs, and neither should Members of Congress if we fail to pass a budget. This common sense, bipartisan legislation will force Congress to perform and be accountable to the people."

H.R. 325 passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support by a margin of 285-144. The bill suspends the debt limit for nearly four months and stipulates that Members of Congress will not get paid if they do not pass a Fiscal Year 2014 budget by April 15, 2013.

"Moving forward, I am hopeful that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will put politics aside and use this opportunity to work together toward greater fiscal responsibility," said Ruiz.
