Co-Chairs of Creative Rights Caucus Praise Copyright Alert System

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) and Congressman Howard Coble (NC-6), Co-Chairs of the newly formed Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, issued statements praising the recent launch of the Copyright Alert System (CAS):

"The Copyright Alert System is a great way to educate the public about -- and ultimately dissuade people from -- illegally streaming and sharing copyrighted content on the internet. It's great to see the multi-stakeholders of digital entertainment joining forces to protect the creative works of music, movies and TV shows we all love and enjoy," said Chu, who is currently the most senior Member serving on the House Subcommittee on Intellectual Property and the Internet from the Los Angeles region.

"I applaud the long overdue creation of this Copyright Alert System. We must do all we can to protect the innovative works of the creative community. This is an important measure that not only deters repeat offenders from illegally sharing copyrighted materials online, but more importantly, directs consumers to access digital content legally," said Coble. Congressman Coble is Chair of the House Subcommittee on Intellectual Property and the Internet.

American creators of motion pictures, music, software, and other creative works rely on Congress to protect their copyrights, human rights, First Amendment rights, and property rights.
The Congressional Creative Rights Caucus serves to educate Members of Congress and the general public about the importance of preserving and protecting the rights of the creative community in the U.S.
