Following the principal that "United We Stand, Divided We Fall," Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) has taken the lead in forming a bipartisan coalition of freshmen House members committed to bringing fiscal discipline to Washington.
Today, Congressman Pittenger and Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-FL) personally delivered a statement of principles to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. The letter, which was signed by 21 Republicans and 11 Democrats, has also been sent to President Obama.
"For too long, folks in Washington have yelled at each other but forgotten how to listen. Our government's spending problem won't be solved by more posturing, but a sustainable solution can be achieved if we sit down and find common ground," said Congressman Pittenger.
"As freshmen, we are challenging Congressional leadership and the President to exercise fiscal restraint, and to finally tackle major issues such as Social Security and Medicare reform, tax reform, and streamlining government. We are already spending our great-grandchildren's money, and it's time we stopped kicking these problems down the road."
