Earlier today Congressman Ami Bera urged members of Congress to be responsible, make good decisions, and not allow automatic across--the--board spending cuts to go into effect at the end of the month. During a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, Bera used a poster sent to him by a 3rd grade class at Foulks Ranch Elementary School in Elk Grove, California with some tips for Congress to make his point. The poster read:
Make Good Choices
"If sequestration takes place, 70,000 children will be kicked out of Head Start, 10,000 teachers will lose their jobs, and hundreds of thousands of our children will face a more difficult future," said Congressman Bera. "If the 3rd graders can figure it out, I hope we in Congress can. Let's do what they advise. Be responsible and make good choices."
If Congress doesn't act before March 1, automatic across--the--board spending cuts will go into effect, impacting programs that are vital to local communities and national security.
