Boustany Reacts to President's State of the Union Address

Statement

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after attending the President's State of the Union address last night:

"Last night in his State of the Union Address, I saw the President lay out an ideological left-wing agenda, promoting a government-centric vision for America rather than empowering small business and unleashing America's potential for economic growth. The President and I could not disagree more on the solutions needed to move our country forward.

"The President says deficit reduction by cutting government spending is not a jobs plan. What the President fails to understand is the federal government does not create jobs. It often stands directly in the way of job creation with needless regulations. We have already tried the President's approach in the form of a failed stimulus package and government efforts to jump start the economy. As evidenced by the continuously high unemployment rate, these approaches do not work. I look forward to working with my conservative colleagues in the House to craft policies reducing taxes on small business, creating good-paying jobs in South Louisiana, and spreading prosperity to all corners of our nation."
