Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement commending the investiture of Chief Justice Bernette Johnson:

"I could not be prouder to congratulate Chief Justice Bernette Johnson on her investiture to the highest judicial seat in the state of Louisiana. Throughout the years, she has broken one glass ceiling after the next as one of the first African American women to attend law school at Louisiana State University and as the first woman to be elected to the Civil District Court of New Orleans. Despite the challenges leading up to this moment, serving as the state's first African American Chief Justice is a rightful and deserving progression in her tenure. This historic achievement is a testament to her commitment to public service and I am confident that she will continue her legacy of dedication and distinction as Louisiana's Chief Justice."
