Press Release

Date: Feb. 1, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Newly elected Congressman Bill Enyart today took a public ceremonial oath of office before constituents, family, and friends at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He was joined by fellow freshman Congressman Rodney Davis for the historic event, which the court expects will become a tradition. Chief United States District Judge David R. Herndon hosted the ceremony.

Enyart pledged to stand up for Southern Illinois and cut through the dysfunction and gridlock in Washington to protect Scott Air Force Base, attract new economic opportunity, and strengthen our middle class.

Enyart said: "Southern Illinois holds enormous potential - from our skilled and dedicated workforce to our small businesses, manufacturers, and farmers to our abundant natural resources, and I am honored and proud to champion and protect the way of life we share. As Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, I fought to keep good jobs and keep our communities safe. Now, as the voice of Southern Illinois in Washington, I will work every day to uphold our values and build a strong economic future for all of our families."
