Statement

Date: Feb. 12, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, issued the following statement ahead of President Obama's State of the Union address:

"While I expect President Obama to acknowledge the faithful service and enormous sacrifice of our nation's veterans during tonight's State of the Union address, I sincerely hope he will also take the opportunity to rally Americans around the noble cause of serving those who have served. Today's veterans are facing enormous challenges. Whether it's the lack of timely access to mental health care services, mounting benefits claim backlogs at the Department of Veterans Affairs, or persistent unemployment among our returning heroes, there is much more work to be done when it comes to ensuring our veterans get the care and benefits they deserve. The House Committee on Veterans' Affairs is committed to overcoming each of these challenges, and we look forward to working with President Obama and his administration to do just that. America's veterans deserve nothing less."
