Lummis Appointed to Chair House Science Subcommittee on Energy

Location: Washington, DC

Tuesday the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology announced Subcommittee chairmen for the 113th Congress. Among them, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) was appointed to chair the Subcommittee on Energy. Following her appointment, Rep. Lummis issued the following statement:

"I am thrilled and humbled to be appointed Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee. I'd like to thank Chairman Lamar Smith for delegating this responsibility to me. I'm eager to work with Chairman Smith, fellow Chairmen and members of the Committee in the coming year.

"As I approached the 113th Congress, I set my sights on committees that afforded me the best opportunity to represent the State and the State's interests. This subcommittee's focus on the science of energy development and use is a perfect fit. In recent years we have seen a proliferation of opinions and Hollywood fiction masquerading as science. As Representative to the second largest energy producing state in the country, I am looking forward to the oversight responsibilities incumbent upon this subcommittee, and to the task of ensuring sound science is the basis for every discussion on domestic energy production."

Science, Space and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) issued the following statement after nomination:

"In the new Congress, the Science Committee will promote policies that support our nation's space program, encourage energy independence, expand scientific education, fund basic research, and enhance the development of new technologies. All of this work begins in the Subcommittees. I look forward to joining Rep. Lummis to advance policies that spur innovation, job creation and economic growth."
