Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., was sworn into the 113th Congress today by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

"I am humbled and honored to continue to represent West Virginia's Second District in the U.S. House of Representatives. We have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us, and I am committed to being a strong voice for West Virginians on policies that affect us most, from access to healthcare to energy independence to economic growth.

"As always, I have ambitious goals for the 113th Congress. Right now every American carries over $50,000 of the national debt on his or her shoulders. This is unacceptable, and it's past due that we get serious about reining in spending and finding ways to trim our budgets, just like every family does when times get tough.

"I want to see us work toward energy independence using West Virginia resources. Our state is blessed with abundant natural resources that have the potential to power America and the world. As I have always done, I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation that will help--not hurt--energy producers expand production and create jobs.

"Lastly, the most rewarding part of my job is helping individual West Virginians and their families through constituent services outreach. Whether helping an elderly couple better understand their Medicare benefits, nominating an outstanding student to our military academies, presenting a Veteran with his or her medals or expediting a passport, I am here to help West Virginians in any way I can."
