Rep. Duffy: Statement on House Passage of No Budget, No Pay Act

Statement

Date: Jan. 23, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Sean Duffy (WI-07) released the following statement this afternoon after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 325, the No Budget, No Pay act:

"No American family or small business could go without a plan for how to spend their money and pay their bills. Yet, this is exactly what the Senate has done in ignoring the law and failing to pass a budget for the last four years. The proposal that overwhelmingly passed the House today would withhold pay from the members of either chamber of Congress that fails to pass a budget by the April deadline. The House is more than willing to work with the Senate to set America's spending priorities. But we cannot negotiate with ourselves. Given the Senate's inaction, this proposal was necessary to spur that chamber into a meaningful conversation about the fiscal issues facing the nation. The American people demand that we address the more than $16.4 trillion in debt and yearly $1 trillion budget deficits. Step one in that process is getting the Senate to pass a budget."
