Cooper Statement on Lifting of Military Ban on Women in Combat

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) released the following statement after the announcement today by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey removing the ban on women serving in combat:

"I'm glad that President Obama and Secretary Panetta are lifting the ban on women serving in combat positions. Women have fought for our country since the American Revolution. It's time to bust through the glass ceiling."

Cooper is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, serving as Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and also serving on the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces.
