Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) released the following statement in reaction to President Obama's inaugural address today:
"President Obama set the right tone for his second term, emphasizing that we should not expect to come up with perfect solutions to all of our challenges or settle timeless debates, but that our leaders must act and move our country forward.
"We have an obligation to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to make the most of their abilities and to recognize that our country is at its best when we have an expanding and successful middle class. The President was right to stress that we can celebrate individual initiative and responsibility while also understanding that government does have a role to play, whether it's strengthening our education system, building the infrastructure our economy requires, responding to climate change, or continuing our pursuit of full civil rights for all Americans.
"Gridlock is not acceptable and I hope today will mark a fresh start for us to restore people's faith that government can work for them."
