U.S. Representative Glenn "GT' Thompson today joined thousands from across the state and country at Gobbler's Knob, Punxsutawney, Pa., to witness Punxsutawney Phil make his 127th prediction, which was that spring will come early this year.
"It is an honor to celebrate Groundhog Day here in Punxsutawney and join friends, local Pennsylvanians, and others from across the country in this beloved pastime," said Rep. Thompson. "Groundhog Day is not only about Phil's prediction of the future and how soon the next season will be upon us, it's a celebration of our past, Commonwealth heritage, and a time for communities to enjoy each other and carry on this great tradition for future generations to enjoy. I want to thank Bill Deely, the Groundhog Club Inner Circle, and everyone from Punxsutawney and the surrounding area for their hard work and planning to make this year's Groundhog Day such a special event."
Bill Deely is the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club President, and the Groundhog Club Inner Circle is a group of local dignitaries responsible for carrying on the tradition of Groundhog Day each year. They are not only responsible for planning the Groundhog Day events; they are also responsible for the feeding and care of Punxsutawney Phil.
