U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) released the following statement on the reintroduction of the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which was introduced last week by Rep. Diane Black (TN-06) and which Rep. Kelly originally cosponsored in the previous Congress:
"The latest annual report released this week from Planned Parenthood shows that its affiliated clinics performed 333,964 abortions in Fiscal Year 2011, averaging about one abortion every 94 seconds and accounting for 92 percent of Planned Parenthood's pregnancy services. The report also states that Planned Parenthood received more than $500 million in "government health services grants and reimbursements,' including "payments from Medicaid managed care plans.'
"While I support federal funding of women's health, I do not believe, and a majority of Americans do not believe, that taxpayer dollars should fund abortions. The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act will ensure that federal dollars received by Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers will not be used to subsidize abortion procedures, which is against the law and is a grotesque violation of the will of the American people."
In addition to Rep. Kelly, original cosponsors include Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Chris Smith (R-NJ), John Fleming (R-LA), Joe Pitts (R-PA), Tom Price (R-GA), Phil Roe (R-TN), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Adrian Smith (R-NE), Peter Roskam (R-IL), Martha Roby (R-AL), Steve King (R-IA), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Bill Flores (R-TX), Lou Barletta (R-PA), Blake Farenthold (R-TX), Jason Amash (R-MI), Rick Crawford (R-AR), Tom Graves (R-GA), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Virginia Foxx (R-VA), Tom Reed (R-NY), and Renee Ellmers (R-NC).
