Nolan Garners Key Subcommittee Assignments on House Transportation/Infrastructure and Agriculture Committees

U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan has received the key subcommittee assignments he requested for Minnesota's 8th District on both the House Transportation and Infrastructure and House Agriculture Committees.

The full committees officially approved Nolan's assignments as they met this week to officially organize for the 113th Congress.

Nolan's seniority from three previous terms in Congress allowed him to request and receive five rather than the customary four total subcommittees. On Transportation and Infrastructure, those include:

Subcommittee on Highways and Transit
Subcommittee on Aviation
Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management
Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment

On the Agriculture Committee, where Nolan will join fellow Minnesotans Rep. Collin Peterson (MN-07), the body's Ranking Democratic Member, and Rep. Tim Walz (MN-01), he will serve on the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry. Walz is the Ranking Democratic Member on that subcommittee.

"Surface and water transportation are critically important arteries that support our taconite-timber-tourism-based economy here in the Eighth District. These five subcommittees are absolutely vital to our efforts to generate good paying middle class jobs that enhance economic development and the quality of our lives in northern Minnesota," Nolan said.

"With these assignments on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Eight District now has a real voice and vote in redirecting our priorities homeward to rebuild and renew our roads, bridges, airports, railroads, public buildings, parks and municipal water systems."

"Moreover, the Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry will be making important decisions that affect the economic and ecological vitality of our northern Minnesota forests and farmlands, and our ability to produce the energy we need to drive industry and generate jobs, for years to come. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make real progress on all these fronts," Nolan concluded.
