Dingell Statement on Departure of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI12) released the statement below following Secretary Ray LaHood's announcement that he will soon be leaving the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"Secretary LaHood has worked tirelessly to put our country on a path to a safe, efficient, and effective transportation system that is both deeply rooted in a strong national infrastructure and ready to embrace and implement the systems of the future. As we've worked to rebuild our Nation, it was Secretary LaHood at the helm of working to invest and rebuild our roads and bridges, ensure the safety of our highways, and invest in a high-speed rail system that allows for efficient transport of people and goods with a strong focus on our nation's economic development needs and all that our country has to offer. He competently and effectively oversaw the infrastructure investment included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, as well as worked to support and promote shovel-ready projects through the TIGER grant program.

"Here in Michigan's 12th Congressional District, I've worked closely with Secretary LaHood to help secure important funding for the Ann Arbor Bridges project, make a much-needed investment in high-speed rail service between Detroit and Chicago, and in the recent announcement of funding approval for Detroit's M-1 light rail project. Secretary LaHood has also taken an active role in our discussions of creating the New International Trade Crossing, a public bridge to Windsor, Canada. Without Secretary LaHood's involvement in each of these important projects, they would not be what they are today, and I am thankful for his joining me in recognition of the important needs of those I am proud to represent.

"I'm honored to have worked closely with Secretary LaHood, both in his service as a great member of the Congress and in his work as Transportation Secretary, and I consider myself blessed to call him a friend."
