Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI12) visited the Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor to highlight volunteerism on the eve of Saturday's National Day of Service. Dingell urged residents of Michigan's 12th Congressional District to make efforts Saturday to assist their community by donating time volunteering for a charitable effort or participating in a local service event.
Dingell toured the facility and met with staff and volunteers at the pantry and thanked them for their work.
"It's wonderful to be here at Fish & Loaves to see the good work they do providing food assistance to those Downriver families in need," said Dingell. "Service and volunteerism is not a one-day commitment, but I hope this National Day of Service will highlight the importance of taking time to help others. I urge all who are able to go to their nearest food bank, shelter, or church and find out what they can do to help. Whether assembling care packages for our soldiers overseas or taking time to help feed or clothe those in need, our Nation is a better place when we make efforts to help those around us and make a meaningful contribution to our communities."
