To mark Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters issued the following statement:

"Through his life and his work, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. embodied the best that our society has to offer. As we pause to recognize the countless contributions he made to our nation, let us also recommit ourselves to advancing the dream that he worked so hard to achieve. Right here at home in our Greater Detroit region, we face real challenges, but as Dr. King once so wisely stated, "We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools.' Together, we will."
