Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Weld Tool Center Plant Closing

Statement

Date: Jan. 17, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today regarding the Weld Tool Center plant closing announced by General Motors:

"The Weld Tool Center plant closing announced today by General Motors is a loss for our community because every job counts. I am thankful that, at least in this case, the jobs will stay within the company and that workers will be relocated to other automotive facilities in the U.S., including existing plants in Michigan.

"Unfortunately, America continues to compete with other countries on an unequal playing field. It is my firm belief that our nation greatly needs trade and manufacturing policies that help strengthen our economy and support middle-class families. I will continue to be a strong advocate for legislative proposals like the "Make It In America" plan, which encourages businesses to invest and create good-paying jobs in states like Michigan, not overseas."
