Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen will attend the Change of Command and Retirement ceremonies at the US Army Medical Research And Materiel Command (USAMRMC) at Fort Detrick. The USAMRMC is the central agency for all Army military medical research and development to improve preventive medical measures and rapid treatment techniques. After a 35-year career, Major General James K. Gilman is retiring and will relinquish command to Brigadier General Joseph Caravalho Jr.
"I want to thank Major General Gilman for his service to the United States Army, and I'm honored to join the community in recognizing his work and welcoming Brigadier General Caravalho. Fort Detrick is on the front line providing critical support to the brave men and women in the Army. Their work helps prevent illness and injury, equip Army medics with the best possible tools to treat combat injuries, and ensure medical logistics are in place for our troops," said Congressman Van Hollen. "I look forwarding to working with Brig. Gen. Caravalho and the entire Fort Detrick community."
