Van Hollen: Plan B Was Never Going Anywhere in the Senate -- Now Isn't Going Anywhere in the House

Statement

Date: Dec. 20, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the House Republicans cancelled the vote on their "Plan B:"

"The Republican "Plan B' was never going anywhere in the Senate, and now it isn't going anywhere in the House. The House Republicans are clearly willing to hold the entire country hostage to give a bonus tax break to millionaires -- this is incredibly reckless. The best chance to avoid the fiscal cliff is to pass a balanced, compromise plan to reduce the deficit. Speaker Boehner should immediately bring the President's proposal to the floor for consideration -- or, at the very least, allow a vote on the Senate-passed plan to extend tax relief to 98 percent of Americans. He must allow the people's House to work its will."
