Today, U.S. Representative Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following statement after the GOP Steering Committee ratified Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers' recommendation that Alexander serve as Chairman of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee for the 113th Congress:
"I am grateful that my colleagues put their trust in me as well as the entire Appropriations Committee to continue the difficult work of cutting spending and shaping responsible federal budgets. With a talented team in place, which embodies critical leadership, expertise and understanding, I am confident we can lessen the damage caused by historic deficits and provide for a stable financial future.
"At a time of substantial challenges facing the American people, it is an honor to serve my district, my state and my country in this new capacity. Congress must act with great resolve in the days ahead, and I have the utmost faith the Appropriations Committee can answer the call of Americans to exercise smart fiscal judgment."
In his announcement of the subcommittee Chairs, Chairman Rogers said, "As a nation, we have a tremendous amount of work to do to get our finances in order and our debt in check. The 12 members that were chosen to lead our Appropriations Subcommittees will shepherd tax-dollars in a responsible, frugal, and common sense way to help address the nation's financial challenges. Each and every one of these hard-working members is committed to reducing our deficits, helping Americans get back to work, and ensuring a sound financial future. I congratulate these new Chairs and look forward to working with them in the 113th Congress."
Alexander concluded, "Ronald Reagan once said, "We are a nation of freedom, living under God, believing all citizens must have the opportunity to grow, create wealth, and build a better life for those that follow.' It is a new year, a new congress, and I look forward to working with my subcommittee colleagues to restrain Washington's purse strings so that this vision for our country is achievable for this generation and for generations to come."
