Huelskamp Encourages Kansans to Take Advantage of Extended USFWS Comment Period on Black-Footed Ferret Re-Introduction

Press Release

Location: Dodge City, KS

Kansas First District Congressman Tim Huelskamp joined Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran to ask U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) to extend the comment period on a proposed rule relating to the reintroduction of the black-footed ferret. USFWS granted their request with a 30-day extension. Kansans now have until February 17, 2013 to submit a comment.

"It is only proper that Kansans have additional time to review and respond to the expansive federal proposal, especially when it involves more power and control by Washington," Congressman Huelskamp said. "Whether it is submitting comments about the impact of reintroduction of other species or plant life or simply the cost -- to taxpayers or producers -- USFWS needs to hear from folks on the ground whose farms, ranches, and communities will be affected."

Written comments should be mailed to Kimberly Tamkun, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Black-footed Ferret Conservation Center, P.O. Box 190, Wellington, CO 80549-0190, or via email to More information can be found by visiting: and searching for FWS-R6-ES-2012-N190. Constituents with additional questions for Congressman Huelskamp's office should call the Dodge City office at 620-225-0172.
