Roskam Statement on President's Failure to Submit a Budget

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on President Obama's failure to submit his FY14 budget to Congress as required by law:

"By law, every president is required to submit a budget to Congress. Today, President Obama missed this deadline, making it his fourth late budget in five years. Every missed deadline is a missed opportunity especially since, under Obama's watch, the government has spent over $1 trillion each year and now our $16.5 trillion debt is larger than our entire economy. The government cannot spend at this rate anymore if we want to get on sound fiscal footing. The American people understand the importance of living on a budget and they expect their government to do the same. It's my hope that President Obama will get serious and work with Congress towards creating solutions to our country's dire fiscal problems
