Braley Statement on Passing of Waterloo Civil Rights Leader, Ruth Anderson

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Bruce Braley (IA-01) today released the following statement on the passing of Ruth Anderson, a Waterloo Civil Rights Leader, Social Worker, professor, and the First African-American female elected to the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors.

"I've known Ruth for over 25 years, and her passing brings about a great sadness for me and my wife Carolyn, and the people of Waterloo. As we mourn the loss of a great Waterloo civil rights leader, one day after celebrating the life and legacy of national civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are encouraged and charged with fulfilling their life's work to ensure equality for every American.

"Ruth was an amazing woman who was recognized for her work furthering civil rights, ensuring equality across race and gender boundaries, and as a public servant. Ruth's life and service to community will surely continue to impact the state of Iowa for generations to come."
