Woodall Statement on Gun Control

Statement

Date: Jan. 23, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) issued the following statement following the President's announcement of his proposal to reduce gun violence:

"The shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, was a heartbreaking tragedy, and the victims' families continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. However, this despicable act should not be used as an excuse to limit the freedoms of decent, law-abiding Americans. Newtown is certainly a warning about how we address mental health issues in this country; it might be a warning about how we deal with violence in entertainment and the media; but it is not a warning that America needs to add new restrictions for law-abiding gun owners. I will be the first to support any law that would prevent another tragedy like the one in Newtown, but I will also be the first to oppose policies that limit or eliminate Second Amendment guarantees and freedoms."
