Pearce Continues to Stand Against Wasteful Washington Spending

Statement

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce voted against the "Disaster Relief Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2013," which was laden with pork and uncontrolled spending unaffordable in the current economic climate.

"I am eager to help victims of Hurricane Sandy." said Pearce. "But the final version passed here tonight includes billions in pork and unrelated spending that we cannot afford while Americans are struggling to make ends meet. Hurricane Sandy victims need a simple, responsible aid package, and nothing more. Our nation is facing a debt crisis: it's time for Washington to stop using important bills to fund its own political projects."

Earlier this month, Pearce joined 67 other members of the House in opposing a bill to expand the borrowing authority of the seriously insolvent FEMA Flood Insurance Program. Pearce continues to seek a debt-free solution to this and other important issues, and has been in communication with House leadership on the need to take a different approach.
