Chairman McCaul's Statement on TSA's Decision to Pull X-ray Body Scanners from Airports

Location: Unknown

U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding TSA's decision to pull 174 X-ray body scanners from airports:

"I spoke with John Pistole today and I commend the administrator for protecting the privacy of Americans at airports and rectifying a problem that predates his tenure. Administrator Pistole has assured me TSA is replacing the machines with scanners that do comply with Americans' privacy expectations. Unfortunately TSA procured this equipment that does not comply with Congress' intent to preserve the privacy of our air passengers. This is yet another example of a flawed government procurement process that is all too common within the Department of Homeland Security and I will inquire in the coming days as to whether this has resulted in the waste of more taxpayer dollars."
