Maloney: We Can Ensure That Disaster Victims Don't Fall Victim to Washington Politics

With Hurricane Sandy aid still pending in the House, freshman Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) offered his first amendment which would require Congress to respond to the critical disaster relief needs within one week of a federal disaster declaration.

"It's just plain wrong for Washington to take months to address New Yorkers' urgent needs. My amendment sends a message to Congress that we must act quickly and responsibly to ensure disaster victims will never again be used as political footballs," said Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney.

Congressman Maloney offered his amendment to Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen's (R-NJ) legislation which ensures that New York and New Jersey families, businesses and local governments are given the resources to rebuild and recover. A day after taking the oath of office, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney co-sponsored legislation that offered relief to homeowners and business owners hit by Superstorm Sandy. This bill passed the House and was signed into law by the President.
