Hoyer Statement on President Obama's Nomination of Jack Lew as Treasury Secretary

Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following President Barack Obama's nomination of Jack Lew to be Secretary of the Treasury:

"I join in congratulating Jack Lew on his nomination as our next Secretary of the Treasury and thanking Tim Geithner for his steady leadership during a time of extraordinary economic challenges. Jack's extensive public and private sector experience, his knowledge of both the fiscal and financial, will be an invaluable asset in this new role. He understands the economy and what makes it tick.

"As Congress and the administration continue with efforts to achieve balanced deficit reduction and invest in growing our economy, I am encouraged that Jack will take on this leadership role at the helm of the Treasury Department. I hope he receives swift consideration by the Senate so he can begin in his new role without delay."
