Representative Mark Takano (D-Riverside) was appointed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. Following his appointment, Takano issued the following statement:

"I'm pleased to learn of my appointment to the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. As the committee with jurisdiction over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), space exploration, aerospace, energy research and development, and marine research, the Science, Space and Technology Committee has consistently played an integral role in the advancement of developing industries and our job market, which has always leaned on American innovation.

"One of my top priorities the next two years will be to preserve, and possibly increase, funding for important research and development programs that are crucial to emerging industries.

"While our economy is steadily improving, it is still not where it needs to be and serving on the Science, Space and Technology Committee gives me the unique opportunity to help usher in an economy for the 21st century and beyond."
