Feinstein Statement on Review of Benghazi Terrorist Attack

Statement

Date: Dec. 19, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on a report by the Accountability Review Board, convened by the State Department, that reviews the September 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya:

"The Accountability Review Board, chaired by former diplomat Thomas Pickering, is a thorough, unflinching review of the situation in Benghazi, Libya, before and during the terrorist attacks of September 11 and 12.

"From the review the Senate Intelligence Committee has done to date, I concur with the Review Board's conclusions that security at Benghazi was inadequate and that pleas from State Department personnel for added security before the attacks went unheeded. Secretary of State Clinton has done the right thing by accepting and implementing the board's recommendations.

"I strongly agree with the recommendation that State Department facilities--especially those in high-risk areas--need adequate security and that increased resources will be necessary. I intend to work with my colleagues on the Senate Appropriations Committee to ensure that Congress provides the State Department with the funding it needs to keep Americans working overseas safe."
