Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) discussed the need to reach a balanced agreement to prevent the fiscal cliff on "WUSA 9News Now" last night. Below are excerpts and a link to the video.
"The issue is not giving up salary. The issue is giving up positions that are strongly held and agreeing to compromise on a solution. We need to reach a compromise, we need to reach an agreement so that we can stabilize the finances of this country and give confidence to our economy."
"We have already cut $1 trillion in spending we perhaps need to cut more and I think there's more to be looked at, but we haven't done anything on the revenue side of the balance."
"You haven't heard the federal employees yelling and screaming. They understood -- they want to contribute to helping us solve this problem but they don't want to be the only ones so it's time to look elsewhere."
