Sen. Brown Announces New Resources To Provide More Than 300 Affordable Housing Units For Cincinnati Seniors

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

A Cincinnati neighborhood received new resources to redevelop blighted and abandoned property while providing safe, affordable housing for seniors. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that new U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding will build more than 300 housing units in Avondale.

"Facing rising prescription, food, and energy costs, seniors are often challenged to find affordable housing," Brown said. "This new construction will revitalize Avondale while ensuring that 300 senior households in Cincinnati will have a place to live safely and comfortably."

Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) will receive $29.5 million trough HUD's Choice Neighborhoods Initiative grant program. By leveraging an additional $45 million, TCB will renovate the Alameda Apartments, Crescent Court Apartments, Poinciana Apartments, Maple Apartments, and Somerset Apartments.

According to HUD TCB will work with the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, Cincinnati Public Schools, and the Avondale Comprehensive Development Corporation to implement a "Transformation Plan" that will connect updated housing units with park and recreation resources for seniors to improve long-term health and public safety.
