Cochran Statement on BP Criminal Penalty Settlement

U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today issued the following regarding the criminal and securities settlement agreement reached between the U.S. Department of Justice and BP related to the tragic April 2010 offshore explosion and oil spill:
"It is good that the aspects of the criminal case against BP are being resolved, and I hope that this settlement will assist the states which were harmed by the oil spill. Congress and the administration have a law in place that outlines a course of action for civil penalties that will aid Gulf Coast states. Many of us would also like to see progress on that front soon. More than two and a half years after the Deepwater Horizon tragedy, it is time for that to happen."
