Lungren Statement on the October Unemployment Report

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2012
Location: Gold River, CA

Today, Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) released the following statement in regards to the U.S. Department of Labor's October jobs report. The report shows a net total of 171,000 jobs created, and the unemployment rate for October increased to 7.9 percent.

"Today's jobs report is a confirmation that the economic policies currently in place are not working for the over 12 million Americans who don't have a job and are looking for work. These same policies predicted the unemployment rate would be below six percent by now.

"Americans dropping out of the labor force -- some who are family members, friends, and neighbors - have outnumbered new hires by almost 7 to 1 after trying to navigate through almost 4 years of a weak economy. This latest jobs report is yet another clarion call to implement new ideas and strategies that will boost job creation and put us on a path to sustained economic growth.

"I have supported legislation that will accomplish these goals in the past and I will continue to support them in the future. My constituents and the American people deserve a better economy and a better future."
