Representative Gosar: Arizona Agriculture Grows Economy and Creates Jobs

Press Release

Location: Casa Grande, AZ

Yesterday, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar (R - AZ) hosted a Farm Forum for local farmers, small business owners, state officials and the public to discuss current regulations and the future of Arizona agriculture. Gosar reaffirmed his commitment to reducing burdensome red tape and strengthening Arizona's economy.

"Our local farmers and small business owners are committed to growing our economy and creating jobs. Agriculture is a vital component to jobs, economic stimulus and Arizona's way of life. In order to keep agriculture at the forefront of Arizona's economy, we need a federal government that cuts back on the red tape and gets out of the way," said Congressman Gosar.

Bas Aja of the Arizona Cattleman's Association also mentioned the importance of cutting back on the burdensome regulations.

"We can't tax our way out of the debt crisis, we can't cut our way out... and we can't grow our way out unless we reduce the regulatory burden on small businesses," said Aja.

Tiffany Shedd, a cotton farmer from Eloy also spoke about the impact agriculture had on the local economy.

"Farming is often treated like a hobby--it's not a hobby--it's an industry. Cotton farms bring in 500,000 dollars per square mile into Pinal County's economy. AG money is the basis for rural American communities," explained Shedd.

Congressman Gosar and participants at the Farm Forum discussed a range of issues from the Farm Bill and disaster relief to the EPA's job-killing regulations on the Navajo Generation Station.

Congressman Gosar is currently a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Congressional Rural and Small Business Caucuses. Gosar believes that together we can cut through the red tape and find solutions to the problems that face our country.
