Rep. Fudge Urges Protection of Utility Relief Workers' Voting Rights

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge issued the following statement regarding the potential disenfranchisement of electric utility crews sent from Ohio to assist in restoring power in states hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy:

"A substantial number of workers employed by utility companies in Ohio have been deployed recently to assist with the massive job of restoring power in other states devastated by Hurricane Sandy. It appears their relief efforts may not be concluded by November 6th, Election Day. Some of those workers have expressed concern about preserving their right to vote. We accomodate the needs of our military and citizens living overseas to ensure their votes are counted. I urge Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted to consider the unique circumstances of emergency relief workers who are called away to assist other Americans in need and find a way to protect their right to vote in this all important election."
