Dear Mr. President:

I am writing today to urge you to add Hunterdon County, New Jersey to the federal disaster declaration that you have already issued for the State of New Jersey as a result of Hurricane Sandy. As you witnessed earlier this week, New Jersey experienced overwhelming devastation including flooding, power outages, damaged property and displaced residents.

While I appreciate that you have already issued a federal disaster declaration for many counties in New Jersey, including the counties of Somerset, Union and Middlesex in the Seventh Congressional District, I strongly urge you to update the declaration to include Hunterdon County.

As a resident of Hunterdon County, I have been in repeated contact with Hunterdon County public safety officials, governmental leaders and area residents and can personally attest to overwhelming damage sustained throughout the county. Thousands of residents and businesses have experienced significant damage. Additionally, Hunterdon County public safety officials and governmental leaders strongly support this request.

I respectfully ask that you promptly add Hunterdon County, New Jersey to the federal disaster declaration so that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other federal resources can be available to assist Hunterdon County residents and businesses to the greatest extent possible.

Respectfully yours,
Leonard Lance
Member of Congress
Seventh District, New Jersey
